Intelligent Dispatching of Public Traffic Vehicles in ITS

In many applications, vehicular scheduling involves more complex criteria than that of travel time minimization. With regard to the actual status and operational environment of Public Traffic Vehicles (PTV), the optimal dispatching methods of PTV are dealt with by intelligent characteristics of Genetic Algorithm (GA). With one-point or two-point crossover of GA, various dispatching methods in three vehicular scales are confirmed. As an example from Beijing No.375 buses, the PTV dispatching results with GA are gained. The simulation results demonstrate that it is effective with GA to obtain good scheduling solutions by only searching the limited solution space. The method can be effectively used to improve the optimized results, and enhance operational efficiency, traveling safety and service level of PTV.
